What to Expect at Your First Visit
Your first visit is a thorough, unhurried consultation. Here is what typically happens:
History taking — The doctor will ask about your current concern: when it started, what makes it better or worse, any previous treatments, and relevant medical history including medications and allergies.
Examination — A clinical examination of the affected area, and sometimes adjacent areas, is performed under appropriate lighting. A dermatoscope (a hand-held magnification tool) may be used for closer inspection of certain lesions.
Diagnosis and discussion — The doctor will explain the likely diagnosis in plain language, discuss what is known about the condition, and outline the available treatment options with their relative benefits and considerations.
Treatment plan — You will leave with a clear, written or verbal treatment plan, including medication instructions if prescribed, lifestyle advice, and guidance on what to monitor or when to return.
First consultations typically take 20–30 minutes. Complex cases requiring more detailed history or multiple conditions may take longer.
What to Bring
- Government-issued ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, or Passport)
- Previous prescriptions or medical records related to your skin/hair concern
- List of current medications (including supplements)
- Photos of the condition if it is intermittent or has changed over time
- Insurance details if applicable
- Note of any known allergies to medications or topical products
